Met Centre Chandigarh established in 1980 and Started functioning w.e.f 1st
January ,1982. Prime mandate of the Centre is to provide Non Aviation Weather forecast
and climate services to Met subdivision of Punjab ,Haryana Chandigarh and its neighbouring
area and all other prime users in central/State Govt like Agriculture, Irrigation, Power, Railway,
Roadways , Sports, Disaster Management, Relief and rehabilitation. Agromet advisory services in Punjab
and Haryana Started with effect from 24 February 1985 to provide exclusive services to Agriculture sector .
Prior to its shifting to new office this office had no observatory of its own and used observational
data of IAF observatory Installed at IAF Aerodrome, Chandigarh. Since it inception Met Centre Chandigarh
expanded its services with state of art communication, Observations systems and is now working with it
own premises since 24th August 2009 spread over 1.5 acre of land both for office and residential purpose
with six unit at the centre .Centre is equipped with state of art technology with the setting up of High
Performance Computing System (HPCS) in November 2009.

- Forecasting Services
- Agromet Services
- Monitoring/maintenance of observational network in Punjab and Haryana
- Supply of Climatological information
- Regional Maintenance Centre for maintenance of Automatic Weather Stations/ Automatic Raingauge station
- Research and development unit
